The Japanese Drawing Room
Victorian Travellers In Japan
A real life account of the visit to Japan of two British people in 1885.
Sakura Mizuki, Sean Michael Wilson and Shaun Garner
2006, 100 pages.
"A true story set in Meiji-era Japan, which combines the visual appeal of manga with a well-researched historical account. A foreign couple travels throughout Japan, seeing many interesting aspects of life - beautiful girls in Kyoto, the funeral of a Shinto priest and how Japan was adjusting to the new western influences. They come across fascinating aspects of Japanese history, like the 47 Ronin, who committed suicide after avenging their dead Samurai master. Mizuki's artwork on this book reaches a new level of beauty and sophistication." - Gandry Macallan

This is the first half of a book I've collected of my poems and prose sketches from 1992 to 1997, written in Scotland, Sweden and a few in London - called THE FIRST TREMBLE.
It's scanned from the original so is full of odd little sides notes, corrections and tea stains. But I rather like that, in fact I love it. cover painting by my mother, back cover photo of me on my first Vespa scooter at Edinburgh University in 1994.
