Yet more proof that mainstream, popular music is far worse now than it used to be... and the bad period has lasted about 25 years already! The songs are pretty good (with a few daft exceptions!) from 1940 right up to the late 80s, and with many brilliant songs in those years... Then from 1989/1990 onwards most of them are pretty poor. I'd only say 2 or 3 are good from 1990 right up to 2016.
Also, they are very similar to each other from 1990 on, with hardly any style/genre change over those 26 years. There is some, but far less than in the years before that (look at the big change from the late 40s to the late 50s, or again from then to the late 60s).
Some people will say that is just older generation saying ‘music was better in my day, moan, moan…’. But consider this - they might be RIGHT!
In which case its not moaning, its an intelligent observation of something being wrong, and a wakeup call for the need do something to improve the situation. The amount of young folk commenting on that video with things like: “I wish i had not been born in the 2000s - music is terrible now!”or “I’m only 17 and i love that old 60s/70s music.” seems to show that even a lot of young folk agree.
